Which Cities Have the Best Bank Deals and Rates?

There are a couple of cities in the country that jump out as places where good bank deals and rates are easier to find. Whether the reason is the lack of a major bank dominating the local market or that the cities have better local economies, residents in these cities seem to have it easier than the rest of the country in finding a good bank deal right down the street.

Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is not dominated by the branches of just a few major banks, so the competition is fierce between smaller banks like Cole Taylor Bank, Amcore Bank, Millenium Bank, and Broadway Bank who have offered Chicagoland residents great rate deals on certificates of deposit, money market accounts, and savings accounts for years.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Oklahoma City and the suburb of Mustang host the home offices of a number of banks offering competitive reward checking accounts. Bank 2, AmericaNet Bank, Bank of the Wichitas, and Evantage Bank are all offering their own branded reward checking accounts with yields of over 5%. It is very unusual to have this many similar reward checking accounts in one city, but the banks are all separately FDIC-insured up to $250,000 per depositor giving Oklahoma City residents unbelievable choices for reward checking. By the way if you have not checked out the online division of Bank of the Wichitas at www.redneckbank.com , you have missed one of the most humorous financial sites out there.

St. Louis, Missouri

St. Louis does not have the spectacular rates of Chicago or the depth of reward checking accounts of Oklahoma City, but the city has over ten banks which are consistently promoting their deposit products both locally in the St. Louis metropolitan area and nationally. Triad Bank and St. Louis Bank are offering CD rates of over 3% today, while Montgomery Bank is promoting a reward checking account and a high yielding money market account. Next week it could be three different banks offering the best deals in St. Louis.

If you don't live in one of these cities do not despair. Many of these bank rate deals are available for accounts opened online no matter where you live in the United States. Just keep checking MoneyRates.com to find the latest bank deals.
