Starting today six major airlines are testing the concept of adding content to the drudgery of an airline boarding pass. An independent company, Sojern Inc., will provide the information to airline passengers who use online check-in and print their boarding passes. Delta will be the first to offer the deals and offers to online customers beginning with their Las Vegas flights. American, Delta, Northwest, United, and US Air will follow later this year with the service. We don't quite yet how enticing the offers will be, but it will give airline travellers something else to peruse as they wait with their inevitable travel delays.

This might be a win-win proposition as the airlines desperately need additional revenue to survive the costs of aviation fuel and consumers can opt-in for some of the deals and offers in their destination cities that they may not know about. Sojern, Inc, will also provide the content directly on the boarding passes similar to how grocery stores print coupons with your receipts. Check back with The Savings Investor for a report on the specific deals offered by the new service.
